I Wish I Was A Real Drummer

I would rock your socks off… maybe I really played drums. Sometimes I actually start beating on the most expensive stolen drum set in my mind, and wishes come true. It gets a little too weird. But that’s alright. And good drummers spend years drumming on more than a keyboard. Writing workshops and courses never taught me how to play the drums. I guess I just have a gift.

Someone asked me how do you play a wicked drum beat. The smart-ass in me wanted to say, practice. The truthful answer is to try a “Flat Tire” beat, the snare hits on the “ands” between the beats, unlike a traditional Back Beat that hits on the two and four.

It’s possible I was a Monkee during a terrible acid trip one year, but that’s a different story for a memoir.

Dreamsicle.
